In 2012 Meg Barnhart, founder and co-creator of The Zen of Slow Cooking, wanted to create a business that could employ people with learning challenges - adults like her son Doug. Meg met Jane, who had just moved to Chicago from the UK and was developing recipes and writing for a local food artisan. Together they felt that they were meant to build Meg's dream together.
These two busy moms liked the zen like effect that slow cooking had on their families and created spice blends to put in a slow cooker or Crock Pot to help create a meal. Each spice pack comes with a recipe suggestion on the back.
Each time someone purchases one of their blends they make a contribution to their slow cooking initiative, a 'Drishti Donation - where insight meets action'.
